Why the Zebra?
Doctors are taught to associate common symptoms with common ailments with this saying, "When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras." Pulmonary hypertension is a medical zebra. Just as a zebra sounds like a horse, PH often sounds and looks like something more common. Sometimes common symptoms indicate asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, obesity or other common diseases. But sometimes it's PH. Our goal is to make PH a Zebra that every doctor knows about.
So many PH patients are misdiagnosed for years before finally receiving a correct diagnosis of PH. This delay can have significant impacts on the effectiveness of the medications given. Our hope is to build awareness not just in the medical community, but with the general public as well.

What is Pulmonary Hypertension?
Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs that can lead to deterioration of the right side of the heart, ending in heart failure. Currently, the disease is incurable, but events like this help build our community of hope. Proceeds from the event will go to PH research and support services of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
